Catholics were once barred (and may still be) from Freemasonry but it doesn't lead to excommunication, not now, if it ever did. I'm not sure if you know this, but anyone who joins the Freemasons is automatically excommunicated from the Catholic Church. Then it's revealed to the unsuspecting new members that it was just an act to see how you would react or get you to feel something related to faith (a bullshit explanation to the trickery in my opinion) Once the ceremony ended I was pretty steamed at the people in charge. It gets to the point where several people are holding him up. The people running the ceremony force the man to stand, as you can imagine to someone whose not in on the act, forcing an old tired man to stand when he's in clear (or what I thought was clear) pain is a little ridiculous. As the ceremony peaked he fakes being able to stand up, people get him a chair so he may sit. People were helping him around and getting him water the whole afternoon. The one that upset me the most was an old man who pretended to be sick the entire time. As the induction process comes to a close these people act out in various ways to cause the unknowing members of the group to act in response. There are Three (or two maybe, I'm trying to recall this all from memory and it's fuzzy) individuals the group that pretend to be new members but are actually part of the ceremony. Throughout the time there you are introduced to everyone. The whole process takes a few hours, your put into a room with the other individuals there for the induction.
